Held for issuing cheques of defunct accounts

The Soundarapandiyanar Angadi police on Monday arrested two men on charges of issuing cheques of defunct bank accounts to various shops in T. Nagar and Kodambakkam after purchasing air-conditioners. AC equipment worth over Rs.3 lakh were seized from the duo.

Police sources said Rajesh (30) of Ram Nagar, Urappakkam, and Ashok (26) of Thiruvalluvarpuram Main Road, Tambaram, had purchased the air-conditioners from various shops in T.Nagar and Kodambakkam in the last few days with the cheques. They later sold the equipment for half price to some persons.

Following a complaint from a shop representative in T.Nagar, the police registered a case and arrested the duo when they attempting to purchase AC equipment from another shop in the same area, police sources added. The men were remanded to custody and sent to Puzhal prison.
