Heavy showers likely from tomorrow

Chennai may receive heavy showers from Saturday as a result of the depression formed over southeast Bay of Bengal, according to Meteorological Department.

On Thursday, the depression lay centred about 1,250 km east-southeast of Chennai. Officials of the department said it would intensify into a cyclonic storm and cross north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coast between Chennai and Ongole by Sunday evening or night.

Squally wind

Squally wind with speed reaching 65 kmph would prevail along and off north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coast from Saturday morning. On Thursday, the city received only a trace of rainfall, the officials said.
