More than 80,000 residents from six districts — Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore and Tiruvarur — have benefited from the 601 special health camps set up to prevent communicable and water-borne diseases this monsoon, according to a press release.
On Saturday, a total of 44,501 residents benefited from the health camps, while on Sunday, the figure was 40,141.
This apart, in Chennai, Siddha medical camps have been set up at 25 places, and a total of 45,225 people were given the herbal concoction Nilavembu Kudineer . To ensure adequate chlorine levels in drinking water, 90 teams have been formed to check on this.
The Directorate of Public Health has also stepped up measures to prevent the spread of water-borne infections including diarrhoea and is distributing health pamphlets and medication to create awareness among the people
The health camps will continue until necessary, the release added.
