In the season of layoffs in the Indian IT Industry, HCL Technologies has launched a paid career training programme in Chennai, aimed at providing software engineering jobs to bright Class 12 students.

“The programme aims at providing Class 12 students who aspire to start their careers early assured jobs at HCL, essentially in the IT service space,” said Srimathi Shivashankar, vice-president, HCL Technologies.

The programme named ‘TechBee’ costs ₹2.3 lakh and students who have scored a minimum of 85% marks with maths as a subject are eligible to apply. The programme would provide a combination of academic training for nine months and on-the-job training for three months making them self-reliant and enrolled students would get a stipend of ₹10,000 a month.

Fee waiver

There would be a 100% fee waiver for those students who score above 90% in the training module and a 50% fee waiver for those who score between 80 and 85%.

The fee payment will start only on the third year of employment and can be paid in EMI (equal monthly instalment) which will help the candidate to make the payment over a span of six years.

They would get a course certificate from SSN college after completion of the programme and the starting salary package will be ₹2.2 lakh per annum. The students can enrol for their masters program such as MSc in IT, in local universities after completing two years in the job.

The first batch of the ‘TechBee’ programme was launched in Madurai and Lucknow last month. We are looking forward to working with schools across Chennai and Tamil Nadu,” said Ms. Shivashankar.

She further said that the current lay-offs in the industry are cyclical in nature and that the IT industry would survive the tide and provide employment opportunities.
