The Madras High Court has directed the police to file a status report relating to complaints against fraudulent sale of land in and around Pallikaranai area.

While hearing a criminal original petition, Justice R. Mahadevan observed that the perpetrators of the crime would be taken to task and appropriate directions would be issued to the Inspector General of Registration. The judge directed the Pallikaranai police to file a status report regarding the number of complaints filed before the Pallikaranai police station and details of the properties involving double documents on or before June 13, 2017. “Till then, status quo shall be maintained,” he said.

Threats made

According to petitioner P. Gnanasekar of Nanganallur, he was the owner of a property in Ram Nagar South Extension in Pallikaranai village. He was threatened by some unknown persons to stop work when he attempted to start construction.

Though the petitioner lodged a complaint with the Police Commissioner and it was transferred to the Additional Commissioner of Police of the Central Crime Branch and later to the Deputy Commissioner in St. Thomas Mount, no action was taken, he alleged.
