The Madras High Court on Monday directed the Chennai city police to register a First Information Report (FIR) against Bharatiya Janata Party leader H. Raja if any cognisable offence was made out on the basis of a complaint lodged against him by advocate K. Sathyaraj who had taken objection to his tweet on pulling down the statues of Periyar.

Justice M.S. Ramesh passed the order after a government advocate said the petitioner’s complaint was being enquired into by the inspector of the High Court police station. He passed a similar order on another petition filed by CPI (M) advocate R. Thirumoorthy who had sought for a direction to the inspector of the Esplanade police station here.
