‘Have made it easy for Speaker’

August 05, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:04 am IST - Chennai:

Soon after the DMK staged a walkout from the Assembly following Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s statement on prohibition and comments against DMK chief Karunanidhi, Ms. Jayalalithaa said, “Earlier when the Speaker had to control the disrupting members of the opposition party, the Chair with great difficulty had to ask the House marshals to evict them, and they (Marshals) with great difficulty had to evict them. But it is not necessary now. Two words are sufficient. If one says ‘Retrieval of Katchatheevu’, ‘Lifting of Prohibition’, the Opposition would leave the House. And that way, I have made it easy for the Speaker to control them in the House”, she said.

When Speaker P. Dhanapal thanked the Chief Minister, the House burst into peels of laughter.
