Fourteen services in both directions between Tambaram and Chennai Beach stations were cancelled after guards of suburban electric trains refused to work overtime.

There are nearly 230 suburban electric services between Tambaram and Beach everyday. Due to a shortage of guards, many of them work overtime. On Wednesday morning, however, the guards refused to work overtime. As a result, seven trains from Tambaram to Beach and an equal number in the return direction were cancelled around noon.

However, the situation was defused soon. Southern Railway authorities assured them that their grievances would be sorted out soon. As nearly all the top management of Southern Railway was busy with the Nellore fire accident on the Tamil Nadu Express, the guards were requested to resume overtime services, following which there was no further disruption of train services.
