Guard murdered by colleague

March 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:31 am IST - CHENNAI:

A drunken brawl between two security guards at a workshop near Poonamallee in the early hours of Thursday resulted in the death of a man.

Police have arrested the suspect who was sitting by the dead body till the other employees arrived.

Poonamallee police identified the victim as Karuppu (32) of Thiruvannamalai who joined as a security guard at the workshop in Kattuppakkam a week ago after fellow guard Munnusamy (57), residing in Mangadu, went on leave to his native village.

Munnusamy returned on Wednesday and was irked at the fact that someone else had taken his place and his employer has given him additional responsibilities. However, the employer retained Munnusamy.

“On Wednesday night, the two guards got drunk and soon, began arguing. Karuppu threatened to kill his colleague and then passed out. An enraged Munnusamy carried a large stone from nearby and dropped it on Karuppu’s head, killing him on the spot,” said an investigating officer.

The murder came to light in the morning when their co-workers reached the workshop.

The police was alerted and Munnusamy was arrested, sources added.
