Green tribunal seeks update on river revival

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) Southern Bench has directed the Chennai River Restoration Trust (CRRT) to submit an elaborate report on the details of works allotted to each department for the rejuvenation of rivers. They have also been asked to provide details about the funds sanctioned to each department and the stage of implementation of the work.

The Bench, comprising judicial member M. Chockalingam and expert member P.S. Rao, was hearing a petition filed by P. Edwin Wilson.

He had sought the prevention of further pollution and encroachments along the three rivers and an end to sand mining in Kosasthalaiyar and Cooum tank in Tiruvallur district, among others.
