Projects from five Chennai Corporation schools and three government schools are among the 24 projects that have made it to the State-level National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC) scheduled to be held in December in Pudukottai.

Udhayan, State-level task force member, NCSC, said a total of 233 projects on the broad theme of ‘Understanding weather and climate’ were displayed at the 22 district-level Congress held at SBOA School and Junior College on November 22 and 23.

“The idea was to give students an opportunity to innovate and make localised projects. There was a good representation from government schools,” he said, adding that it was a congress and not a competition.

A department of science and technology initiative, the Congress is open to children in the 10-17 years age group.

Shyamala Ramakrishnan, head, Manage Science Centers, QED, which has 22 science galleries in Chennai Corporation schools, said that they conducted three workshops for teachers to guide students for the projects and as many as 116 projects submitted were from Corporation schools.
