: DMK leader M. Karunanidhi on Tuesday accused the State government of being indifferent to the spate of deaths/suicides inside prisons.

In a statement here, he said that in the recent past, Ramkumar, the arrested in connection with the murder of software engineer Swathi had died, and a few days ago Perarivalan, a life convict in the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, was attacked by a fellow inmate.

“While the police claim it (Ramkumar’s death) is a suicide, others allege it was a murder. Two prisoners in Cuddalore have committed suicide in a month. Another prisoner Senthil has attempted suicide in Coimbatore prison. But the government is not worried,” he charged.
