Governor seeks efforts to reduce dropout rates

Governor K. Rosaiah on Thursday appealed to educational institutions, teachers, education department officials and voluntary organisations to join hands to reduce school and college dropout rates. After releasing the State of the World’s Children report 2016 by UNICEF at Raj Bhavan, he said every child should be provided with a safe and healthy childhood, good education and a prosperous adulthood.

Job Zachariah, Chief, UNICEF State office for Tamil Nadu and Kerala, who lauded Tamil Nadu’s initiatives to reduce inequity, said the State could still do better and become a model in ensuring equity to every child. Minister for Social Welfare V. Saroja said Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had ensured that the State invested enough in children. Social Welfare Secretary K. Manivasan also spoke.
