The Tamil Nadu Government has sanctioned Rs.3 lakh each as compensation to two migrant Rajasthani women and two children who were allegedly sexually assaulted by a police constable at the Hosur outpost control room in October last year.

Following this, the First Bench of the Madras High Court comprising the Chief Justice S.K.Kaul and Justice M.M.Sundresh, which was hearing a petition relating to the incident, on Tuesday directed the government to pay the sum within a month. The Bench also made it clear that it would monitor the matter till the charge sheet is filed.

The matter came to the Madras High Court after U.Vasuki, national president of the All India Democratic Women’s Association filed the petition stating that the victims were poor and selling plastic ware at the Hosur bus stand. The petitioner alleged that a Grade I police constable, Vadivelu, picked up the women and children on October 8, took them to the outpost control room and sexually assaulted them.

On court orders, investigation was transferred to the CB-CID. In a status report, the CB-CID submitted that investigation revealed that the constable picked up the women and their children and took them to the control room. In the guise of interrogation or examination, he beat them up, touched their body, outraged their modesty and forcibly took away their money. Vadivelu was arrested on December 29 and was interrogated. He was later remanded to judicial custody. At present, he was in Sub-Jail, Hosur. Investigation was on. The victim children were out of State, attending school.
