Good sales on 'Akshaya Tritiya'

Jewellers across Tamil Nadu on Sunday reported a good response to the special sales on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, considered auspicious to bring home wealth in any form.

People across the State thronged jewellery showrooms since early morning to purchase gold and diamond ornaments.

The famous Pondy Bazaar in the city, Opanakara Street in Coimbatore and other towns and cities were buzzing with activity and packed with people.

Many shops opened at around 6.00 a.m. to cater to the rush.

Various gold ornaments like necklace, ear-ring, nose- ring were among those favourites buy, they said.

Besides jewellery showrooms, many Banks including public sector Indian Bank, Bank of India and other banks functioned today to sell gold coins for the public.

Police personnel were deployed in large numbers in areas with high concentration of jewellery showrooms, police sources said.
