The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials have seized gold worth Rs. 1.06 crore from a flight that arrived in Chennai from Thailand.

Following a tip-off that smugglers would remove the gold concealed in a toilet during the domestic trip of an aircraft after it arrived from international destination, DRI officials kept close vigil on such flights landing in Chennai.

The team conducted a search in a flight that arrived in Chennai from Bangkok on Thursday, an official release said.

“During the search, the officials recovered 3.60 kgs of gold valued at Rs. 1.06 crore concealed in a toilet of the aircraft”, it said.

“As there was no claimant for the concealed gold, it was seized under the Customs Act 1962”, the release said.
