Gokulraj murder case: Now Yuvaraj’s audio clip comes from prison

May 09, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:00 am IST - CHENNAI:

There seems to be no stopping Yuvaraj, the prime suspect in the alleged ‘honour’ killing of Dalit youth Gokulraj in Namakkal district, when it comes to posting audio messages in the social media.

First he posted a series of messages on WhatsApp while on the run. Now, the latest audio clip comes from Vellore Central Prison where he is lodged. On Sunday, a five-minute conversation involving Yuvaraj and two of his friends went viral.

According to police sources, the suspect alleged that the Crime Branch CID of the State police was suppressing facts in the suicide of Deputy Superintendent of Police Vishnupriya and also scuttling his chances of release on bail. It is not clear whether the conversation that appeared to be a conference call was made from a mobile phone or a Public Call Office (PCO) established on the prison premises.

The CBCID investigated the murder of V. Gokulraj (22) whose body was found with his head severed on the railway track at Pallipalayam near Tiruchengode in Namakkal district on June 24, 2015.

The allegation was that the engineering graduate was in love with a caste Hindu girl and last seen going to a temple with her. The family and friends of the victim alleged that he was abducted and murdered by a gang.

Gokulraj was forced to give a statement in front of camera after which he was done to death. The beheaded body was thrown on the railway track to make it appear as if he committed suicide by jumping before a train.

Yuvaraj of Dheeran Chinnamalai Gounder Peravai was alleged to be the prime suspect in the case. While evading arrest, he sent several audio messages to his supporters making allegations against the police.

After Tiruchengode DSP R. Vishnupriya, who was probing the sensational murder, committed suicide by hanging on September 19, 2015 leaving a note that she took the extreme step owing to personal reasons, he sent voice messages alleging foul play in her death. He later made a dramatic surrender before the police.

When contacted a CBCID official said the charge-sheet in the Gokulraj murder case was filed within the stipulated 90 days and the accused, including Yuvaraj, were in prison without bail.

‘Strong case’

“This is a strong case where police have established clear evidence of abduction and murder. We found an identity card of Gokulraj in one of the vehicles used to commit the crime. The vehicles were seized based on the confession of Yuvaraj. The photo identity card of the deceased was found under the floor mat,” he said.
