‘Jewels Expo 2011' has a collection of exquisitely handcrafted jewellery from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.
Handmade ear-drops, bangles, rings, bracelets, necklaces, brooches, studded with semi-precious stones and pearls are on sale at the 15-day exhibition. A women self-help group from Mylapore has on display an array of fashion jewellery. A jeweller from Madurai has created temple jewellery using panchaloka. The artisans say the patronage for their jewellery is on the rise as the prices of precious metals such as gold and silver have been increasing steadily.
Figurines and miniature Ganesha and Shivling in jade among gift items are also attracting visitors. The exhibition is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
