Glass piece in medicine; customer gets compensation

February 07, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - CHENNAI:

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum in Krishnagiri has directed a medical shop and a private pharmaceutical company to pay a compensation of Rs. 10,000 to a customer who found a glass piece in a syrup bottle he had purchased.

P. Saravanan of Hosur had, on September 20, 2012, purchased a syrup bottle from a medical shop and later found a piece of glass in it.

After he sent a legal notice to the medical shop and the pharmaceutical company which manufactured the syrup, the Mumbai-based company sent its representative to inspect the bottle, and promised to replace it.

As the bottle was not replaced and the shop did not get involved in the process, the petitioner moved the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum in Krishnagiri seeking compensation, the replacement of the bottle and litigation charges.

The forum said there was deficiency in service on part of the medical shop and the pharmaceutical company.

It directed the respondents to pay a compensation of Rs. 10,000 to the petitioner, repay the cost of the syrup bottle and pay litigation cost of Rs. 2,000 within six weeks.
