Yoga guru and founder of Patanjali Yogpeeth Baba Ramdev on Tuesday said yoga was ideal for individuals to lead a happy and stress-free life.

Inaugurating the eighth annual Hindu Spiritual and Service Fair at A.M. Jain College grounds in Meenambakkam, Baba Ramdev said in another 10 years, his organisation, Patanjali Yogpeeth, would be spending close to Rs. 25,000 crore on charity.

Stating that many people were asking him why his organisation had got into the manufacture of products, he said he was only “making things and not breaking them.”

Modernity was taking a toll on the quality of life of people and hence, people had to look inward into traditional Indian practices, he said. “Start your day with yoga and make sure to wear only Indian clothes. Shun products from abroad,” he said.

The yoga guru said he had been asked in many places about the attacks on Dalits and said concepts like untouchability and discrimination or violence on fellow human beings were not part of the culture of the land.

Organisers said the event was growing in strength and popularity. With just 30 participants in 2009 and 300 last year, this year’s event had already attracted 400 participants so far and the number will increase further in the next couple of days.

Among others who took part were Geshe Ngawang Samten, vice-chancellor, Central University of Tibetan Studies, Varanasi, Giani Iqbal Singh, Jathedar, Patna Sahib, Veerendra Heggadde, dharmadhikari, Dharmasthala temple, Gopal Srinivasan, chairman, TVS Capital Funds Limited and chairperson, organising committee, and Padma Subrahmanyam, Bharatanatyam exponent.
