A 6-year-old girl was run over by the rear wheels of her schoolbus, after she slipped through a hole on the floor of the vehicle, at Mudichur near Tambaram on Wednesday.
Angry residents and other motorists set upon the bus and set it on fire, demanding strong action against those responsible for the accident.
Gaping hole
S.Sruthi, a class II student of Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Indira Nagar in Selaiyur, Tambaram, was seated on the sixth row on the bus (TN 23 S 9952). It was 4.05 p.m. Her stop, near Manimangalam koot road on Mudichur Road, was near. Sruthi got up, but her little feet slipped into a gaping hole right under the seat, into the road below. The rear wheels of the bus ran over her, killing her instantly. Students inside the bus and other motorists raised an alarm, but it was a while before the bus driver Seeman realised what had happened, according to Suresh, an eye-witness.
Intercepted by motorists, Seeman brought the bus to halt at Habibullah Avenue bus stop. Commuters beat up Seeman and the bus' attender. A police patrol vehicle secured the duo from a quickly growing mob.
By 4.30 p.m., angry parents, residents and passing motorists had damaged the bus and deflated its tyres, before soaking a piece of cloth in petrol and setting the vehicle ablaze at. A fire tender from Tambaram reached the spot about 30 minutes later and put out the fire, but the bus was gutted by then. The accident brought traffic to a grinding halt on the stretch.
A question over safety
“We were waiting eagerly for our children to get down from the bus. It took a while for us to realise what had happened,” said Suresh, whose two sons were also in the ill-fated vehicle.
“It was a real shock. None of us were able to react. The first thing we wanted to do after the bus came to a halt was to secure the safety of the 20-odd other children who were travelling in the bus. We took them to the premises of Santhosh Hospital, from where we contacted their parents,” said D.Vasu, Office Assistant at Mudichur Village Panchayat.
Police sources said the vehicle had received its fitness certificate less than six months back. A case has been registered at St. Thomas Mount Traffic Police (Investigation). The girl’s body has been removed to Tambaram Taluk Government Hospital in Chromepet for post-mortem.
N. Vijayan, Correspondent of Zion Group of Schools, said they had declared a holiday on Thursday and added that the school would give compensation to the family. Mr. Vijayan said the bus was taken on contract by Yogeswaran. However, an officer of the Transport Department said that the bus was registered in the school’s name.
Traffic police personnel said the exact cause of the accident and details related to it would be established only after a thorough investigation.
Priya, the victim’s mother, was waiting further ahead at the Manimangalam ‘koot’ road. When there was no sign of the bus and she found other students had got down near Nawab Habibullah Avenue, she panicked. Some residents took her home and tried to convince her that Sruthi was safe, but Priya lost consciousness.
Kin inconsolable
Parents and residents lingered at the accident site long after the incident. Sruthi, affectionately called Mala, is the daughter of Sethumadhavan, who owns an autorickshaw and a Maruti Omni, ferrying school children in the morning and evening. Priya, the girl’s mother, is a homemaker. Sruthi’s elder brother Pranav is a class V student in Mudichur.
“Sruthi was a bright student and her parents did everything to provide her the best education. That is why they got her admitted in a school very far away,” said Tarakeswari, a family friend. Sruthi was a gifted dancer, a show stealer on special occasions in her neighbourhood in Bharadwaj Nagar near Tambaram, Ms. Tarakeswari said.
“Sethumadhavan would never ask for fare from his neighbours and would drop everyone on the main road or at the nearest bus stop. He works extremely hard to provide for his children,” said Rukmani, another neighbour, adding that everyone in PTC Quarters knew the family.

I wish GOVT to give CAPITAL punishment to Vijayan, Correspondent of ZION school. Is it fair to give one day holiday and compensation for the family???. Also trying to blame another contractor???
The guilty has to be punished. This case to be referred to fast track court and punishement to be given immediately.
Our citizens are famed to mimic the exact pattern displayed by the
right half of the great Gaussian curve.
For all those who didn't understand, there is a surge in the
emotions immediately after any incident, which leads to useless
thrashings of innocent bus drivers and making occasional bonfires out
of public property mostly city buses providing lot of vent to their
fury, the ambers of which fade out gradually until nobody remembers
about the incident and nobody cares to do anything to prevent such
kind of untoward occurances from repeating.
And the media perfectly mirrors this by presenting such kind of
stories as a flash news, the long term consequences of which do not
need to be followed up (rarely are there any!).
The correspondent responded poorly after this incident. I was
shocked because he told the press how we were responsible for this
incident because the bus was owned by someone else. This type of answer we can
hear in India only. Take some serious action on them that restricts
these types of actions in future.
Tragic incident... now RTOs are checking every school. Other than this
even share autos are taking more people than prescribed, sometimes even
double the number of people. Will the RTOs be waiting for accidents to happen
there? No action seems to have been taken till now. We should not be treating
symptoms but the main cause of the problem. Catching a prescribed number of
cases per month and saying we are working, etc., is not the solution.

A small innocent child with great future ahead is no more with us. Every small issue should be raised to the highest level. A hole might have been a small issue but it has taken a life of an innocent girl. All responsible should be severly punished. These things should never happen again.
It is ridiculous and shows so poor administraion from a reputed
organisation. Even the RTO gives permission , evey damages/ repairs to
be attended and supervised by the their own team. This will reduce such
accidents. A private audit team provided by the Govt side will give a
better effect.
I am writing this with the interest to safe guard a child's life in future. There are so
many private school vans which are plying everyday, most of them are over
crowded, they dump children into the van like cattles. so do we have a place where
we can complaint about this? they make the children sit on the engine, near the
bonnet , its extremely dangerous. Can any one please help me with the contact
details or e-mail ID of the higher official for this issue.
May the soul of the little girl rest in peace and heartfelt condolences to the family. This is very sad.
Who is to be blamed for this utter carelessness? The school authorities, whose responsibility it is to make sure the buses are safe for the student? The RTO officer whose job was it to evaluate the vehicle properly and issue the fitness certificate? The driver/helper who had to maintain the vehicle in a safe condition? The parent who had to keep the school on tab, monitor facilities and ensure safety of their children while at school? This is a collective failure of a society whose soul aim is to make money with utter disregard for discipline, compassion to fellow citizen/road user and everything that doesn't involve their own selfish needs. These incidents are waiting to happen everyday in overcrowded government buses, private share autos, dangerous cabs and other upteen hazards on roads. Our Indian cities are no longer safe with no value for human life. Very distressing.
The transport authorities alone are not responsible for this
incident.Tamilnadu government should take stern measures to curtail
bribery and undertake frequent checks not only in school buses and also
the government buses as there are many old people commute everyday to
distant places.Private players are thriving because of the lacuna
existing in the government transportation..
I hope Hindu publishes the names of those who had cleared the bus. Only journalists can make officers accountable.
This is a very sad news for the parents of Sruthi. God gives them courage and patience to recover such condolence moment. Government should be strict to handle such type of situation and give hard punishment with fine such culprits who involve such wrongful activities. Therefore I will extend my prayer to both the deceased and the bereaved.
Irresponsible and totally unfunctional Tamilnadu Government. This is the price you pay for bribe. The government office responsible for the Fitness certificate of this should be burned down.
It is very sad it happened. But will the current government take action against the person who gave the fitness certificate itself?
I was shocked to read the news.
Our system of education is responsible for casualties like this.
Education of children should become the responsibility of the State.
Then only safety will be ensured. Unfortunately Indian educational
scenario is a vegetable market. Some institutions are over ripened some
are rotten while some are yet to bear fruit. A thorough re structuring
is needed aiming in mind the future of the country.
It is sad to see, how horror resistant the Indian society has become.
If this was a news about India loosing a cricket match or a match fixing. This
page will be full of non-sense comments but since a poor kid died such a
horrific death....who cares!! right!
I feel so angry to see media making a show of a kid being stuck in a hole for
days just to get a story while if they tried to find these holes and death traps
early and tried to go after person responsible for these then may be such
tragedies will not occur.
This news made me sick to my stomach. My heart goes out to the family of this young girl, cannot imagine what they must be going through. I don't have words to describe the absolute indifference and apathy of our state administration towards safety, be it in any infrastructure. i just wish that we take proactive measures to ensure safety instead of learning hard lessons like this.
Very tragic and shocking. I fail to understand how some institutions can
be so callous when responsible for others' lives. Can a PIL be
instigated against the school and transport company, as they have
flouted safety norms by allowing the bus to ply even when there was
something as flagrant as a hole on the floor of the bus?
The main problem in India is that people who are supposed to do their
duty do not do what they are supposed to do - either due to corruption
or laziness and this causes loss of lives or endangers people's lives.
Just Like in the movie "Indian" and "Anniyan", if people simply do their
duty, life would be better for all Indians.
Everyone in a community in India should shoulder the joint responsibility before such
incidents happen. How many manholes and drains are left open and people just walk
around it? How many railings are broken on bridges? How many other unfinished
repairs are not attended to? It is not enough to just watch for yourself or your own
kid. Any time you see an unfinished public works job or hazardous situation in a
shared facility, instead of protesting and burning after the fact, gather a crowd and
protest before someone looses their life.
Not just the driver..All the concerned authorities right from the School Management, Vehicle Inspection/ Trasport Department/Vehicle Servicing Agency .. They should be severely punished to have risked the lives of the kids
When it comes to safety of school children and their school bus
(travel) India should be nominated for Oscar award.I have seen
6 to 15 year old kids traveling on the top of the bus. Then comes the
auto riksha with 15 to 20 kids.In this modern times these kind of
things still happening.God please help this country with some kind
of miracle.
"N. Vijayan, Correspondent of Zion Group of Schools, said they had declared a holiday on Thursday and added that the school would give compensation to the family" really? Now does that fix the issue?
The bus driver and the conductor should be sent to jail for being reluctant to report the damage or at least they should have banned anyone from sitting in and around that hole. If these idiots had been more responsible this poor kid would have lived today.
A very sad incident that cut short a beautiful life. As a nation and a society all of us must be collectively ashamed at this tragic loss. Most Indians never do their jobs professionally and it is the lax and corrupt attitude towards everything that causes such incidents. God bless the little one.
It is laudable that our Hon'ble High Court of Madras come to the rescue of affected. The Education/Transport/Police Dept. & District Administration must be more vigilant & very effective at least from now on to perform their assigned duties. They must remember they are getting salary from tax payers money and they are accountable to the people.
Such a shame that the correspondent was more concerned about lavish school functions and other things rather than the basic safety for children. But, soon he will be out of prison and things will go on as normal. That's the case in India. Think about the anguish the parents have to undergo. A lesson for these kind of school owners. They should be jailed for a fair amount of time.
My condolences to the parents.
A precious life to be was wasted by human negligence. Such human negligence which can have disastrous consequences ought to be punished. This punishment may act as a deterrent against such blatant neglect which is tantamount to participating in a murder.
On hindsight, I can say the girl's life could have been saved if the school authorities and the parents of the children had ensured that buses were safe for their children to commute in.
Now, it's too late to save a precious life, but at least we can now prevent this thing from happening ever again.
Very sad end to a young life. No words of sympathy or amount of monetary compensation would get the parents and the girl's loved ones out of trauma for long. This avoidable tragedy(portrayed in the Tamil movie 'Indian' starred by Kamal Hasan)should spur everyone responsible for the safe transportation of children to school and back home, into prompt corrective action and those found to be criminally negligent should be swiftly brought to justice.
May her soul rest in peace!
Where I am living? India? Greedyistan? Every one associated with government institutes in my country are taking bribe - giving bribe and leaving common people to their fate. I am sure safety inspection and certifying it fit for travel as school bus was just a formality, where few signatures done in exchange for currency notes.
Shame!!
How do they plan to pay for loss of their daughter, it is not possible. You can never repay a loss of life in any form.
It again proves that we are still far behind to being called a "Developing Nation".
Firstly I would like to convey deep condolence to Shruthi's parents.
My children are also studying in that school only. I found the school-bus driver driving the bus rashly near Camp Road and near the school's avenue. The driver did't allow other vehicles to move near the school.
In that junction near Bharat petrol pump, there is one traffic policeman who is not regular. The public & walk-in school students are struggling while school bus comes near the school due to rash driving. So the police & the school management must take action immediately to avoid these kinds of incidents in future. We expecting moral co-operation in this so that we can remove our fear.
What compensation can the school give ? The main culprit here is the
school management and Corrupt Motor Inspector who have cleared the
fitness certificate without any careful examination.
The cause for such incidents to happen is the bribe culture at the RTO.
People accept the bribe-taking officials in the RTO to obtain their own
license, so the brake inspector also wants a bribe, and so on... It need
not be this way. If any govt. official demands bribe, make
a big scene on the spot. This girl
need not have died had there been any checks by the School officials for
child safety in school buses.
School authority should be punishable. New laws should be developed by the government for school buses. Buses should be verified by RTO every six months. Most of the schools are using abandoned buses for transport, this is happening mainly in the rural areas.
This is known as 'Criminal negligence' with the sole motive of making money. This very tragic incident reminds me of a plot in the Kamal Hassan starrer Tamil movie 'Indian' where the 'son' Kamal accepts money to certify the road-worthiness of an ancient rickety school bus that meets a sad fate. What does the government do to curb such callousness? An eye for an eye is definitely not wrong here. Will the driver, attender, or the school correspondent be able to bring back that child?
Why do such busses have attenders? Isn't it their job to check worthiness of such vehicles - especially carrying children? Shame!
May that young angel's soul rest in peace!
It is sheer negligence of safety by the school authority. Driver, attender,
teachers... somebody should have taken care of this. Horrible incident. Innocent
life lost as a result of carelessness. Even the authority who granted fitness
certificate for the vehicle is responsible for the lost life. No compensation would
equal Shruthi.
I have friends and family with children of similar age, going to
school by bus and I cannot imagine what it would be like for the
family of this little girl. Day after day, month after month, year
after year, same news coming out of Chennai (and India, in general).
It's 2012, we claim India is a developed economy, bright students, top
class industries and all that. But the reality is what the news above
says. That's the reality of the life of the common man in India.
Every day when I check the news in the Hindu, it's a real pain to
read. If a school bus is
in this condition, only god knows how the public transport is and what
is in store in the future. For god' sake, human life is at stake in a
society like Chennai! Unbelievable.
What the RTA is doing? How can they issue a fitness certificate for such
a bus? Dismiss all those staff associated with this.
What morals does this school management teach the kids? Shame......
This is a totally disappointing and shameful incident. When are we going to be complete caretakers for these Kids ??? Shutdown this school!!
This incident - though tragic - is the reality of the corrupt country we call home.
People can quickly get emotional and ask for the authorities to be apprehended or beaten, but the fact remains that corruption is the root cause of this issue, and we ALL are responsible for it.
Overloaded autos, foot-board-hanging bus passengers and makeshift repairs on vehicles are not just routine, they form the standard operating procedure for travel in our cities.
We are greedy, we are corrupt, and we end up paying the price for this.
This time unfortunately, that price had to be a sweet innocent little girl.
What a pathetic news! When are we going to learn to do things properly. If schools do not care for the children who will? The driver and the helper know the condition of the bus and how could they take children in that vehicle? What the transport in charge in the school is doing? How the vehicle could get the FC from Transport dept.? Is it justified that a child has to lose her life to ask all these questions? How human are we,really?
everytime an accident happens, it always emerges that the Government certifying agencies are at fault - be it a fire accident or road accident. The persons who are supposed to check all these aspects never do and just issue certificate by getting their palm greased. The High Court on suo-motto basis take cognizance of this aspect and bring the ceritfying agency to task and remove them from their job besides sending him to jail.
A small bribe made big tragedy. Now Vijayan will escape the law saying that bus belongs to contractor. Idiot RTO officials say it was fit for FC. The poor people will send their children to such schools as usual. At the end bus driver and attender will get punishment.
might is right. nor the school will own any moral responsibility or will take atleast corrective measures not repeat this MISTAKE afterall. we cannot be surprised if we go and check tommorrow another bus of the same school, to find even a larger hole. if not tommorrow you will surely find it before the close of this acedemic year.
now the so-called attractive schools are even authorised to kill our little ones. Dr.founder will take clear escape with our law structure.
it is an accident and the plight of the bus is another tragedy. how come it passed the FC? strict rules should be adopted atleast for cases like school buses, setting aside normal mamools.. my heart pains for the baby. i can understand the feelings of the parents. my heart felt condolescences. may her soul rest in peace.
Inexcusable from the part of school mamagement to upkeep the trust of the parent to return back the little one alive even if not turning her as supermodel as promised thru admission.
amidst his assiduoss business strategies let the founder take a minute to answer his own Consciousness for the lethargy.
Worse is to read that the FC was renewed about six months back. Also the reaction of the School that it will compensate is adding to the woe.
This is outrageous. It all happens only in INDIA!!!!
Hello government,
Do you think that we have to pay this kind of human life, to take the necessary action in all government department?.
Please check all the school and college buses (proper fc speed limit especially sathyabhama busses at omr ) and don’t sell yourself for bribe, since your children may also be there.
Callousness and greed has permeated our society like cancer. This is nothing but the greed of the bus operator who's out to make a fast buck without any concern whatsoever to the people who avail his service.
Licence to run school given to Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary
School should be Cancelled & Management should be arrested
Stringent Action need to be taken against the culprits.Let her soul RIP
Yet another freak occurrence of trgedy. It is highly staggering to see that the bus was given fitness certificate six months back.Kudos to the transport department! What about the attender and the driver of the bus ?Don't they have the onus of taking care of the little children in thier bus? What excuses can they bring for the death of the little girl in the mishap? What the family has lost is lost .The hues and cries and public furore may linger only for timebeing and things may get back to square one again. It's time parents should well be aware of the situations where their kids are involved.let it be the school they study, the vehicle they travel, the place they go for tuition and so on.It is highly worthy to spend some time from our busy schedules for such good causes or else such tragedies may repeat because we are in an age where money matters in everything and subsequently the due value of human life is cosiderably reduced.
Finally , I feel the culprits should be severely punished.
Education is business in India, even they charge for pickup from home to
school still there is no safety measures. Hereafter we should demand for
good school bus too etc etc. Just they need to earn money. Who need
money for lost of girl, is it money = life?
RTO is the heavenn of corruption..It is well known fact that money
speaks at the RTO Offices..He would surely give clearance to any bus
even without moving from his chair if you give him the money he
demands..A thorough investigation should be done on the RTo who gave the
clearance including his assets and income..He should be punnished
rigoursly so that it would be a lesson other corrupt fellows...
My appeal to TN Govt to Take extreme action over the RTO officer, Pricipal and Driver and Cleaner and Transport incharge of the school and they should be held responsible for the child death and non-bailable warrent should be issued & i thank the public who did the right thing..
Condolences to the parents and relatives of Sruti. Every one who has
been behind this avoidable casualty - the school which has not paid
attention to the safety of their students, the driver and attender who
have not taken necessary actions to report about/ repair the hole, and
most importantly the authorities who have issued fitness certificate without properly (or intentionally in order to get bribe) checking the
condition of the bus - should be brought into book and severely punished
in order to contain such heartbreaking incidents in the future.
The comment by the correspondent, "we will declare holiday and provide compensation," smacks of insensitivity. The least he could do is own up moral responsibility for the incident. The officer responsible for providing the FC should be sacked. God knows how many such agents of death are continuing to allow such death traps to ply on the roads. One shudders to even think of the suffering and trauma the child would have gone through and the parents are undergoing. My heart pains thinking of the child and the plight of the family. It is shameful such callousness continues in our country for the sake of money. It is worse than prostitution.
How did this vehicle get a Fitness Certificate recently as claimed? And this is a reflection of how corruption endangers our everyday life. Let us wake up to this menace and stand up to it wherever we encounter it!
Setting the vehicle on fire or beating up the driver is not the
solution. If this issue snowballs enough, the Government will announce a
cosmetic decision of giving FC to school buses after a thorough examination, as if it is ok for other vehicles to be compromised!!
Why blame the poor driver and attendant? If they had refused then
others would have driven the vehicle. How did the vehicle get
permission? How did the school allow the bus with a hole to move
around? Ridiculous? Talk about RTE, child labour laws etc - but
basic well-being of a human being is ignored.
Innocent children get affected due to the carelessness of elders. How can the parents feel safe that their kids are properly taken care even after securing admission in good schools.
Corruption to the core...How can this Bus get Fitness Certficate? it seems any bus painted in yellow can easily get one!
The above incident shows that schools care a fig leaf for students safety. Children getting crushed by van / bus in which they were travelling are very common these days, which is a shame. It shows the callous attitude of the transport division which certified the worthiness of these vehicles.
The eye witnesses also did a great disservice in this incident. By burning the bus, they destroyed important evidence or atleast tampered with it. The driver and school management will now say that they were not responsible for the gaping hole in the bus. The public needs to stop taking law into their hands like beating up the driver, showing their anger by burning etc. and show a more respectful attitude by simply handing over to the police and preserving evidence etc.
My heartfelt condelences to the family. Another flower plucked out of the world at the bud itself.
How can the school absolve itself of its responsibility saying the Bus
was contracted to someone.Merely paying compensation will not do.Though
a young life is lost, the school can save scrores of others by waking up
and ensuring maitenance of its buses. My condolences to the bereaved
family.May her soul rest in peace and be an eye opener.
This is incredible. This incident was foreboded by the movie 'Indian' where the
younger Kamal Hasan cuts corners as a fixer in the RTO.
My heart goes out to the child and her relatives. Clearly this is a case of cutting corners to make a quick buck. Not only the owners of the bus, but the persons in RTO who gave an all clear "FC" to the bus should be brought to justice. Despite Team Anna's social activism and increased awareness about corruption, its deja vu all over again: plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.
However, I do not approve of the beating up of the bus driver and the attender
who probably work for pittance a month. If they raised some concerns about the
safety of the bus, they would have been sacked and some other naive and
vulnerable person, who will dare not raise their concerns, would have been given
the job.
Whilst the outrage at this rank outrageous incident is understandable, some of the actions are not.
How can the Road Transport Authority give license to a school bus, with a hole below
a seat, endangering the children. The inspector should be dismissed. The right thing was to destroy the bus- as people did! Otherwise, it would remain in operation for
ever!
It is unfortunate incident.
I am afraid how the bus got fitness certificate. Obliviously it is
money power, in other words bribing power.
This is not the first such incident in ZION school, but no lessons
learnt.
Zion is known to be notorious in misusing influence and money power.
It is well known that Ramkrishna mut, near by public raods and parks
were encroached by ZION school legally and illegally through influence
and bribe. NO action had been ever taken. NO action will be taken in
this incident also. Why no arrests so far?
There are so many unroadworthy vehicles carring public in India. It says a lot about the
authorities who are supposed to protect the public by maintaning standards of these
vehicles. Whether it is shear neglect on the part of people in authority or are they taking
bribes from the owners of such 'running coffins' on the road is the question. The proper thing
now is for the police to take a criminal case against the owners while the family sues for
compensation. Sad, an iinnocent life lost!
This is a big tragedy and the people responsible for this; RTO who had
given permit for this bus, Travel Agency who runs this bus, and more
importantly the School Management; should be punished and the punishment
must be in higher degree so that all other schools would wake up.
It clearly shows the irresponsibility of the school management. Giving compenastion to the family alone is not the solution. Strict rules and regulations should be enforced and the rule breakers needs to be punished.
I am deeply sorry and disturbed by what had happened to the family. Why are we so callous in ensuring the safety of children? This is going to be just statistics from the Traffic Police Department and to the RTO.
Right from fitness inspection to traffic rules enforcement is riddled
with failure in a country that has a growing number of vehicle population.
If we people cannot have some discipline and follow regulations, we will be an unfortunate victim of our own bad practices or that of others. What a monster of a society that we have created? Thoughts with the family.
Its not only good but also very easy to be angry on some one or some thing. Its even easier to ablaze others property. Does this prevent such future incidents or other similar accidents, there will be a big pause to answer this, and all answers to human life are embedded in that pause. In every days life there are so many accidents, that result mostly from human error/and or negligence and some times, this can affect their own family members. Social responsibility is, how effective our actions will be to prevent or atleast reduce the incidence of such errors, which is the true human nature, but it seems we are more indian than humane. We are emotional and impulsive, but that should not defer us to be socially responsible. Such incidents do happen, but as long as we are impatient, insted of focussing on the real incident, they are destined to repeat.
Zion school pay compensation, everything is money in India. No value for
life. Where is RTO authorized to run this bus. Everyone should be
punished in such a way that no one even think of running or approving a
bus like this. Can Hindu follow up on the story till end, or just for
today a flash news.
This is the height of corruption and bribe. The investigation shouls start from the RTO officer(reminds me of the Indian movie) who approved and provided the permit. He is the first person to be held responsible. Then the school management has to be held responsible for using vehicles that aren't meeting safety standards. Schools are mone driven, even now the school correspondent says he will compensate the parents with money. What the ****. The case has to be registered and the media/press should take its responsibility to followup on the case and make the world aware of its progress.
All the government officers has to go clean to stop all this. This news will be of no impact to the RTO officer unless the victim is her own kid. Live long you corrupt officers.
RTO, School Management, bus owner, driver and conductor of the bus should stand trial for man slaughter chargers.....
This is tragic!
May be the family of the innocent little girl have peace!
Its time to find out who gave the fitness certificate to the bus. I don't understand how a bus can develop a hole in the 6 months after the FC was issued. The other thing: Don't the bus drivers do a pre-trip inspection to see if all things inside/outside the bus are in a safe and working condition before operating the bus?
Having said that, the driver shouldn't be made a scape goat. The school management also must take responsibility. Its sad to see a young life wasted in such a horrendous manner.
The death of small child would have been avoided if the following have
been followed:
1) If Vehicle properly inspected by the Government Inspector.
2) Even though school management hired bus, it is their responsibility
to check the bus thoroughly.
The root cause for the death is business motive of the school
management and carelessness of government inspector. In this case
government should take stringent action on both of the above person to
avoid such accidents in future.
The school Management who collecting exhorbitant bus fee is responsible for this trajic incident, the dean should brought under law and should punished. They Simply saying that the transportation has been contractised.it is his cunning statement to esacape from the law. it's absolutely false and school directly operating these buses.
oh my Lord; a little one's life brutally and mercilessly lost due to gross negligence of the school authorities and the neglected condition of the bus. Mere reading and understanding that the bus had a gaping hole that a child can slip thru is pure irresponsibility of these wretched people. How do these school operators get a license to operate a children’s school when they cannot take care of the simple basic safeguards to the children. I would say that even the school licensing authorities are also to be blamed along with the road traffic departments. Never should such things happen. Please do also look at the auto-rickshaws that carry children more than what they are permitted to carry. Need to have more crossing-guards at schools and roads that are used by children to and fro from schools too.
I wish the bus was not set ablaze, reason being, use it as evidence to bring down the corrupt RTO official who issued fitness certificate.
I am extremely shocked to hear such incident. Tear are rolling out of my eyes. I could imagine the state of her mother who never knew that her daughter would return as dead body in the evening. Government/court should take immediate and stringent action against the driver, school and the RTO which issued the FC to the bus. The school merciless correspondent is trying to wash his hands off saying that the bus is from the vendor. So does he mean that they are not responsible for Children's safety ? They should be punished severly and that should be a great bitter lesson to every school who plays with innocent child's fate. I pray that the innocent soul rest in peace.
What about the vehicle inspection by the government authorities? No periodic inspection for this vehicle?
Yeah, apologise and 'regret' for the incident; give Rs 50,000 compensation to the child's parents and then the school gets away with it. This school and other schools should have a monitor with power to shut down schools with poor safety record. As long as safety takes a back seat, incidents like this will keep recurring.
Those who are responsible for this in that school's administration
must be arrested and must be punished in the highest level.
That will serve as the wakeup call for other schools in the state.
This is horrible...How can school bus be running which such gaping hole. How can this vehicle be given valid certificate..Now the authorities might say the hole was not there when the certificate was provided. All responsible should be severly punished...A small girl with so much future ahead is no more with us...Every small issue should be raised to the highest level...A hole might have been a small issue but it has taken a life of an innocent girl...Can't believe it...The school management should be behind bars as they are already lying (bus is in their name but they say they contracted it)... There is nothing which could console their family...May she rest in peace...
It is seen also in TNSRTC buses that they are using fibre material in the floor above the back wheels in between the seats, where these fibre materials are found cracked.
