A seven-year-old girl was buried alive on Saturday in an open septic tank on the premises of her home at Kanni Amman Nagar, Maduravoyal.

The girl has been identified as S. Rohita, daughter of Selva Kumar and Anandhi.

According to the police, the septic tank at home had been covered with cast iron sewer lid and to have the cover the tank permanently, the parents had lifted the lid. While playing near the tank, the girl fell into it, and her parents had covered the tank with mud, police officials pointed out.

The parents realised what had happened when they found the bottle she was playing with, near the covered system.

She was rushed to a private hospital nearby, where she was declared dead on arrival.

The Maduravoyal Police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
