A gang stole Rs. 1.3 lakh after breaking open the side-box of a motorcycle parked in Virugambakkam on Thursday afternoon. The theft was recorded on a CCTV camera installed at an ATM kiosk nearby.

Virugambakkam police said the incident took place around 12.30 p.m., when Ravichandran, a fruit seller at the Koyambedu market and resident of Nerkundram, had gone into an ATM kiosk on 1st Street, Raghavendra Colony, Chinmaya Nagar, leaving his motorcycle outside.

Earlier, Ravichandran had pledged some gold jewellery at a bank and collected a sum of Rs. 1.3 lakh. He had placed the money in the side-box of his two-wheeler. When he came out of the kiosk, he found the box broken.

Ravichandran lodged a complaint with the police. Investigators procured the CCTV footage, in which four men are seen breaking open the box and pocketing the cash. A hunt is on to nab the gang.
