A 32-year-old man who is into real estate business was allegedly abducted by a gang in Perambur and let go after a ransom of Rs.10 lakh was paid.
According to police, R. Seenivasan of Thulasilingam Mudali Street, was promoting housing plots in the Sholavaram. He received a call last week from a person who claimed to be an employee of a private firm intending to purchase plots.
After fixing an appointment, he came in a vehicle along with three others and picked up Seenivasan from his house around 7 a.m. on March 20. On the way to Sholavaram, five others joined them. The vehicle went into bylanes and reached an isolated area near Thirunindravur.
The gang told Seenivasan that they had kidnapped him and demanded a ransom of Rs.50 lakh. When he expressed his inability to pay, the accused asked for Rs.10 lakh. As the victim was trying to arrange for the money through a relative, one of the accused attacked him with a knife causing bleeding injuries.
As instructed by the gang, the money was paid to a suspect on the city outskirts. The accused dropped Seenivasan near Ambattur and escaped. He took an autorickshaw and got admitted to a private hospital. Though Seenivasan initially told his family that he met with a minor road accident, his relative who arranged the money revealed the facts later.
A complaint was lodged with Commissioner of Police T. Rajendran who formed four special teams to apprehend the suspects.
