The outer walls at the Arignar Anna Government Higher Secondary School in Besant Nagar wear a vibrant look, thanks to volunteers of Amaara Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that has been conducting life-skills classes for students of the school.

This exercise was carried out as part of the project ‘Paint my world’. The initiative was supported by a painting contract company, Vannam. The volunteers did the painting in three consecutive days. They were joined by residents of localities nearby.

“Visiting every house in the neighbourhood, we spoke to the residents about our initiative and invited them to join us. We are happy that many people from the neighbourhood joined hands with us,” says Ashwin Sridhar, head of operations, Amaara Foundation Chennai.

The Government school is one of the oldest in the locality and had been wearing a dull look for long. Through this initiative, Amaara Foundation seeks to instil in the students a sense of pride about studying at this school.
