About 1.86 lakh free LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) connections will be distributed to beneficiaries by November 15, senior officials of oil companies assured Food and Civil Supplies Minister E.V. Velu on Monday.

This was the assurance given at a meeting on Monday to review the status of the State government’s scheme of distribution of free LPG connections, according to an official release. For 2009-2010, the government allocated Rs.140 crore for six lakh connections under the scheme. So far, nearly 4.14 lakh connections were given.

When the Minister pointed out that normally, people had to wait long for cylinder refills, the officials assured him of taking prompt action. On the basis of registration of requests, the cylinders were issued. Consumers can make grievance calls to 155233 for Indian Oil Corporation; 2621-5575 for the Bharat Petroleum Corporation and 2841-5153 for the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, the officials told the Minister.

At the district level, a meeting of consumers for grievance redress would be held every month. The District Revenue Officers would convene such meetings. This scheme was conveyed by the officials of the oil companies to the Minister, the release stated.
