A free eye camp was conducted on Sunday for members of Tamil Nadu Film Directors’ Association.

The camp was organised by Dr. Vijayashankar, son of Tamil film actor Jaishankar, who runs Shankar Eye Care.

“Nearly 95 per cent of those in the film fraternity are still struggling and this camp is to help those people. This is the fourth time we have organised such an eye camp. Earlier, we did the sae for the producers’ council and actors’ union as well,” said Dr. Vijayashankar.

Apart from distributing free spectacles and medicines, surgeries would also be performed at concessional rates, he added.

“After crossing the age of 40, most of us develop problems related to the eye. Film technicians, especially, are even more vulnerable to such issues as they constantly stare at cameras and screens. Hence such camps are of great help to us,” said co-director S. Madheswara.

Actor Sivakumar and editor of Thuglak , Cho Ramaswamy, inaugurated the camp.
