A Fast Track Court (FTC) here on Friday sentenced four persons to life imprisonment in a case relating to the murder for gain of S. Saravanan, former Managing Director of TAMIN; his wife Kasthuri and servant maid Anbarasi, at Ashok Nagar here in November 2008.
In the judgment, Judge of FTC-V, G. Savithri, said the prosecution had proved beyond doubt the guilt of the accused.
The Judge sentenced Yasin alias Mohamed Yasin (24), Udaya alias Udayakumar (23), Mohandoss (43) and his wife Satyabama (34) to varying terms of imprisonment and fine of Rs.31,000 each. The accused were charged with offences under IPC Sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 460 (All persons jointly concerned in lurking house trespass or housebreaking by night punishable where death or grievous hurt caused by one of them), 382 (theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt or restraint in order to the committing of theft), 302 (punishment for murder) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
They were sentenced to life imprisonment (three counts.) The Judge said the sentences would run concurrently.
She said the homicidal death of the three was made clear from medical evidence. All the charges against the accused had been proved beyond reasonable doubt.
The triple murder committed by the accused in a diabolic manner after planning in pursuance of conspiracy was one of the gravest crimes. There could not be any leniency in sentence in such crimes. It was one of the rarest of rare cases as it was a triple murder for gain. But, the case was based on circumstantial evidence. Hence, capital punishment was not a just sentence.
Kidnap case
A Mahila Court on Friday sentenced five persons to life imprisonment in a case relating to the kidnap and murder of Anita (27) in December 2004.
Those convicted and sentenced are Sujatha, Nandakumar, Vettri alias Vettrisundaravadivelu, Kannan and Muthu alias Muthu Subramani. The case was investigated by the Saidapet police following a complaint by the woman's husband, Sethumadhavan, of Nandanam Extension.
