Four of family killed in accident

Four persons of a family were killed and two children hospitalised when a sport utility vehicle (SUV) rammed a lorry at a toll plaza on GST Road at Acharapakkam in Kancheepuram district early on Friday.

P.Shankar (40), working in Qatar, arrived at the Chennai airport in the early hours on Friday.

His relatives, including his wife Selvi (32) and their children Mugilan (13) and Narmada (7) along with his brother-in-law Aruloli (45) and his wife Vasuki (38) had reached the airport late last night.

After receiving Shankar, they were all returning to their native village of Reddiarpettai in Cuddalore district. Aruloli, who was driving, is reported to have lost control of the vehicle and rammed the lorry parked near the toll plaza at Thozhuppedu, Acharapakkam.

Shankar, his wife Selvi (32), Aruloli and his wife Vasuki (38) died on the spot in the impact of the collision. Mugilan and Narmada are undergoing treatment at Chengalpattu Medical College Government Hospital. The accident took place around 6.30 a.m. However, the exact cause of the accident is still being ascertained.
