Four killed in road accidents

Four persons were killed in different road accidents in the city since Friday night.

According to police sources, Diwan Mohammed (18), an ITI student, and his friend Govindaraj (21) of Pattalam, were going towards Santhome from Parrys on a motorcycle on Friday night when a speeding car ran over them on Kamarajar Salai. The two suffered grievous injuries and died on the way to the hospital.

Car driver Sambamoorthy (30) was taken into custody. Police suspect rash and negligent driving on the part of the car driver that led to the accident. The bodies were shifted to the Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem. The Anna Square Traffic Investigation police have registered a case.

At Tirumangalam, Bhargavi (21) of Villivakkam was trying to cross the road on Friday night at Agraharam junction on the 200 feet road when an unidentified vehicle knocked her down. Police shifted the victim to the Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital where she succumbed to injuries.

In a similar case, an unidentified man was hit by an SUV on East Coast Road in Kanathur on Friday. While the victim died on the spot, the driver absconded from the scene abandoning the vehicle there.

Further investigation is on.
