December 17, 2013 10:57 am | Updated 10:57 am IST - CHENNAI:

Four persons were arrested by the government railway police (GRP) at Fort station on Saturday evening for pushing a man from a moving train.

The victim, identified as Kumar, survived but sustained injuries. According to the GRP, the four men pushed him out after an argument broke out between them.

Charges of attempt to murder have been slapped on the four, and they have been remanded to judicial custody.

On Saturday evening, Kumar (35) and his wife Maheshwari boarded an EMU at Chetpet, and were travelling to Beach station.

“The four accused were standing at the door blocking the entrance, and this irritated Kumar. When the train was nearing Fort station, Kumar came near the door. An argument ensued between them and the four pushed him out,” said V. Ponramu, deputy superintendent, Egmore GRP.

In a matter of seconds, the train reached Fort station and Maheshwari raised an alarm. Kumar was taken to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.

“The four have been identified as Somnath Das, Raji Das, Deepak Das and Jitender. All are from Orissa and work in Chennai as construction labourers,” said Mr. Ponramu.
