Former ward member murdered

A private financier, N. Kuppan of P.V. Kalathur near Chengalpattu, was hacked to death by an unidentified gang near Maraimalai Nagar bus stop on Grand Southern Trunk Road on Saturday night.

According to the police, the victim, a former district panchayat ward member and an AIADMK sympathiser, had come to Maraimalai Nagar to meet some persons in connection with his business. Around 7 p.m., an unidentified gang attacked him with lethal weapons while he was walking along GST Road near the bus stop.

After receiving an alert, the M.M. Nagar police rushed to the spot.

His body was shifted to Chengalpattu Medical College hospital, Chengalpattu, for a post-mortem examination. An investigation is on.
