Former MLA K. Ravishankar, who was recently arrested by Ashok Nagar police on cheating charges, is an accused in 14 criminal cases across the State, Commissioner of Police T. Rajendran said here on Friday.
Addressing mediapersons, Mr. Rajendran said five of the cases have been registered in Chennai city, one in suburban Chennai and the rest in Tuticorin, Kancheepuram and Coimbatore.
Two of the cases have been registered by the Narcotics Intelligence Bureau (NIB).
“We have recovered 124 sovereigns of gold from him. A search is on to arrest his brother who was his accomplice in the Ashok Nagar case,” he added. Ravishankar and his accomplice had gone to a house in West Mambalam recently posing as IT officials and robbed the residents of jewellery and cash.
Case against Lalit Modi
To queries pertaining to the case against former IPL chairman Lalit Modi registered at the Central Crime Branch, Mr.Rajendran said that a 40-page questionnaire has been sent to the BCCI asking for more details pertaining to the case.
The Commissioner of Police inspected 283 sovereigns of jewellery, 23 laptops, seven two-wheelers, a car, an autorickshaw and other items that were recovered by police teams after investigation in 74 cases in the last few months.
A total of 32 suspects have been arrested in connection with the cases and the value of the recovered items is Rs.76 lakh.
