Man caught as he did not know how to ride the bike

A youth allegedly involved in theft of footwear especially from outside places of worship in the city was arrested by Flower Bazaar police while he was pushing home a stolen motorcycle in which the owner left behind the ignition keys. Apparently, the suspect didn't know how to ride a motorcycle.

Sources with the Flower Bazaar police said Ajeez (25), a native of Ramanathapuram, steals footwear left by worshippers outside temples and churches. “He would then sell it on the platform outside Chennai Central. He has regular customers who even place order for specific kind of footwear with sizes,” said an investigating officer.

Ajeez who resides on a pavement near the Anna Salai police station spotted a motorcycle on Tuesday afternoon. The owner had parked the vehicle and forgot to pickup the key. The suspect found the vehicle and as he doesn't know how to ride a motorcycle he pushed it all the way to Flower Bazaar in order to sell it. A police involved in vehicle checks on Ratna Bazaar Road intercepted him upon suspicion and questioned him. Police apprehended Ajeez and took him to the Flower Bazaar police station. But Ajeez tried to flee from the station and was shortly nabbed nearby with the assistance of the public, the officer added.

Ajeez was arrested and booked for theft. He was remanded to custody and sent to Puzhal prison on Wednesday.
