Fluctuations in power disrupt airport services

March 14, 2013 02:35 am | Updated 02:35 am IST - CHENNAI:

Power supply was disrupted for a few hours at Chennai airport’s international terminal on Wednesday evening.

Airport officials said the power fluctuation began around 7.40 p.m., and affected the check-in and security processes for a while.

“For nearly two hours, every ten minutes the power was cut off. We don’t know what caused the fluctuation as yet. We still trying to find out,” an airport official said.

As many international flights take off during the night, the international terminal is usually heavily crowded late in the evening.

“Some passengers faced difficulties at the check-in counters and in completing their security procedures on time,” said an airport source.

However, when asked if flights had been delayed due to the constant disruptions, officials maintained that flight services remained unaffected.

“None of the flights were delayed owing to the power fluctuation. All the international flights took off as per schedule,” the official said. He added that normalcy was restored at the terminal around 11 p.m.
