A flood drain canal network will soon be put in place in Kundrathur Panchayat Union area to mitigate inundation problems faced during the monsoon in Iyyapanthangal, Gerugambakkam, Mowliwalkam and other areas, according to Labour Welfare Minister T.M.Anbarasan.

The project would be implemented at a total cost of Rs.40 crore, including the cost incurred to buy land at Manapakkam to drain the flood water into Adyar River.

Disclosing this at a meeting held at Iyyapanthangal on Wednesday, in which he declared open a panchayat office building, 16 overhead water tanks and other infrastructural facilities, the Minister said the canal network would cover Iyyapanthangal and surrounding areas.

On the occasion, Mr. Anbarasan distributed colour television sets, house site ‘pattas,' identification cards under Kalaignar Life Saving Scheme and other welfare assistance to the people.
