The Ambattur Industrial Estate Manufacturers Association will be focussing on robotics and industrial automation at its international machine tools exhibition, ACMEE 2018.

The five-day expo will commence on June 21 at the Chennai Trade Centre and will have 480 companies from 28 countries participating. The ACMEE 2018 team expects more than 50,000 visitors and hopes to generate business to the tune of ₹600 crore.

“This year’s theme is robotics and industrial automation, improving productivity and energy saving solution. Small and medium enterprises are facing manpower shortage and want to reduce labour dependability. We feel robotics can be a solution,” said K. Ayyappan, chairman, ACMEE 2018.

The association president D. Ravi said, “The intention is not to eliminate the workers. There are some skills which workers don’t possess. We will implement robotics there,” he said.

In 1994, the event had 171 participants and saw business to the tune of ₹4 crore. “We had 486 companies participating and business to the tune of ₹450 crore was generated in 2016,” Mr. Ayyappan said.
