A fire broke out at the State Highways Research Station on Sardar Patel Road, opposite Raj Bhavan in Guindy on Sunday evening. No one was hurt.

The fire broke out at 4.45 p.m. on a pile of empty tar barrels. Policemen and Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Service (TNFRS) personnel said a group of workers tried to clear the bushes and clean the garbage on the premises by setting them on fire. The fire spread from bushes to the barrels.

The barrels were placed near a warehouse, where machineries were kept. The fire was brought under control after more than one hour.
