Two persons were killed in a road accident involving a motorcycle and a goods carrier on Chennai-Bangalore National Highway near Sriperumbudur on Wednesday.

According to police, the accident took place at 4.30 p.m. on Tuesday, when Ramu of Melnelli village in Vellore district and his friend, Sathish of Mettupalayam village in Tiruvannamalai district, were going to Chennai from Melnelli.

They were fatally knocked down from their motorcycle by a speeding goods carrier near the Rajiv Gandhi memorial on Chennai-Bangalore National Highway, police said.

A 20-year-old college student died on the spot and his was friend injured when a motorcycle they were riding hit a car on GST Road in Tambaram in the early hours of Wednesday.

Traffic police said Abraham of Kerala, was a second year B.Com student of Madras Christian College. He was riding a motorcycle with his friend Joshua, studying first year visual communication in the same college, riding pillion.

Around 1 a.m., Abraham's bike hit a sports utility vehicle outside Madras Export Processing Zone – Special Economic Zone. Abraham, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained head injuries and died on the spot. Joshua was injured, but out of danger, the police said.

Abraham and Joshua were proceeding towards Chromepet, while the car, carrying staff working at MEPZ, turned right from GST Road to enter the premises when the accident took place.
