A protest was also held near Tidel Park in Taramani. In both locations, the protestors dispersed after senior police officers assured them of action.

In a statement, Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangankalin Peravai president S. Vellaiyan also demanded action against the erring police personnel.

Police commissioner S. George issued transfer orders to sub-inspector Mohanram and head constable Anwar, who allegedly assaulted the man.

A magisterial enquiry has been ordered into the death and a post-mortem is likely to be done on Friday.
