The Semmanchery police on Friday said they rescued seven members of a family, who were unconscious after attempting suicide. Venkaiah, 65, the owner of a hostel, was staying in a portion of the building on Rajiv Gandhi Salai in Sholinganallur. The family had a cake during the birthday celebration of one of his granddaughters on Thursday.

When the women residents of the hostel searched for them on Friday, the seven were found in an unconscious state. The Semmanchery police recovered a suicide note and sent the family members to hospital.
