A gang involved in issuing fake degree certificates was busted by the city police on Saturday.

One among the suspects is running an educational institution in Coimbatore and the group had reportedly earned a few crores in the process.

Police said Arunkumar (36), K. Shanmugasundari (32), and Ganesh Prabhu (28) were arrested after an investigation into a complaint from R. Dakshinamurthy, secretary, Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry at High Court Police Station last month. He had complained that certificates submitted by three applicants seeking registration in the Bar Council were found to be fake.

The gang members have been remanded in judicial custody and the police are searching for a few more.
