The First Bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday directed Transport authorities to consider the feasibility of providing automatic doors in all buses.

Justice M. Yusuf Eqbal and T.S. Sivagnanam passed orders on a petition by the Nethaji Pokkuvarathu Thozhilalarkal Pathukappu Thozhil Sangam, seeking immediate steps to fix doors or automatic doors in all buses of State transport undertakings within a timeframe.

“It is a matter to be considered by the Transport authorities who will see the feasibility of putting automatic doors in all the buses,” the Judges said. Sangam president M. Anburaj might approach the authorities by filing a suitable representation.

“It is needless to say that the authorities will look into the matter and take a decision in accordance with law.”

In its petition filed through counsel R.Y. George Williams, Mr. Anburaj said every bus should be provided with automatic doors so that footboard travel could be avoided.
