In a bid to create awareness on India’s achievements since independence, Sri Kanchi Mahaswami Vidya Mandir in suburban Rajakilpakkam near Tambaram organised an exhibition on Sunday.
The exhibition with the theme ‘India at 70’ covered five different elements — 70 things India has given to the world, 70 things India has to do to become a developed nation, 70 least-known facts about the country, 70 makers of Independent India, and the world’s acknowledgements of ancient India (tributes and testimonials).
Inaugurating the exhibition, Governor Ch.Vidyasagar Rao said, “The higher education imparted should teach one a meaningful philosophy of life and enrich character.”
Book release
He released a book, Nurturing Global Leaders of Tomorrow: An inclusive learning model (SKMSVM) shows the way.
The first copy was handed over to K. Kasturi Rangan, chairman, Panel for National Education Policy.
Detailing the exhibition, chairman of the governing council, Sri Kanchi Mahaswami Vidya Mandir, V. Shankar expressed the hope that the future generation gets a better India a 100 years after Independence. “Many youngsters are not aware of the contribution our country has made to the world. We should educate the youth through such exhibitions,” Mr. Shankar said.
“Imparting a dual system of education is not heard about much. But inculcating values of heritage and philosophy, along with academic curriculum, is a welcome one,” said Mr. Kasturi Rangan.
Managing Director and CEO, Vijaya Bank, R.A. Sankara Narayanan; member, governing council, SKMSVM C.S. Mehta; and principal, SKMSVM, Lalitha Mahadevan were among those present at the event.
