The eighth edition of the Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF) to be held in December will feature a host of award-winning films and actors from Europe.
This was announced by European Union National Institutes for Culture India Cluster president Imre Lazar at the inauguration of EUNIC Film Festival here on Monday.
Dedicating the EUNIC Film Festival to the Commonwealth Games, Mr. Lazar said EUNIC served as a network among the European countries to share and learn each other's culture. “EUNIC India Cluster, formed in 2007, was an initiative to introduce our culture to your country,” he said.
Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan director Karl Pechatscheck said the EUNIC film festival was one of the rare festivals featuring films of nine European countries.
Observing that the CIFF would be a landmark event this year, actor Revathy said the CIFF would soon become one of the biggest film festivals in the country.
Urging filmmakers to attend film festivals, director Vijay said foreign films have been an inspiration for many directors. CIFF vice-chairman S.Ve. Sheker said organisations such as South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce and Tamil Nadu Film Producers' Council have extended support for the CIFF, organised annually by the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation. ICAF president B.Ramakrishnan and secretary E.Thangaraj spoke.
Nine films would be screened as part of the EUNIC Film Festival till September 18 at the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce auditorium.
