Engineering student dies

A 20-year-old engineering student was killed and his classmate suffered serious injuries in a road accident on the Chennai-Bangalore National Highway near Sriperumbudur on Tuesday evening.

Subidhjo Francis, who hailed from Kanyakumari district, was studying at a private college in Vadamangalam near Sriperumpudur. He was on his way back to his room in Avadi on his motorcycle along with his classmate, Bharat Sudan of Old Washermanpet, Chennai, around 5 p.m. A speeding lorry hit their motorcycle from behind, knocking the duo down.

While Francis died on the spot, Sudan was rushed to the Government Taluk Hospital in Sriperumpudur, from where he was later referred to Chennai, police said.
