Train services on the Chennai Beach-Tambaram route were affected for over half an hour due to signal failure near the Pallavaram railway station on Saturday evening.

Southern Railway sources said the signal failure was reported between Tirusulam and Pallavaram stations around 6.20 p.m., resulting in suburban trains queuing up one behind the other.

Services were affected only on the Chennai Beach-Tambaram line.

Services restored

The fault was rectified in about 40 minutes after which services were restored.

Among the worst hit were passengers on their way to catch express trains at Tambaram.

A commuter who was on one of the electrical multiple units (EMU) on the route said he was left with no option but to jump off the train and walk a kilometre to reach a bus stop.
