Employees of Steel Authority of India (SAIL) celebrated SAIL Foundation Day with a series of events on Sunday.

Around 100 employees and their family members participated in a 5-km-long SAIL Walk at Rajarathinam Stadium from 7.30 a.m. to 9.30 a.m.

K.S. Ammu of SAIL said they conduct this event every year to improve fitness levels among their employees and also to encourage them to take up sports.

“Our youngest participant was a 4-year-old child and the oldest, a 68-year-old senior citizen. There were 9 categories including children up to class VI, children above class VII, men and women up to the age of 45 and people between ages 46 and 60. While it started as a brisk walk, it eventually ended up as race. It was a lot of fun,” Ms. Ammu said.

Best participants

In the walk, 27-year-old Amit Kumar Dixit and class VI student of SBOA School Snehal Kashyap were chosen as the best participants.

Snehal Kashyap said it was quite challenging to walk but she was motivated to do so.

Prashant Ojha of SAIL said such activities were an opportunity for them to also meet senior colleagues.

The event was flagged off by the regional manager of Steel Authority of India C. Jayaram.
