All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam General Secretary J. Jayalalithaa has criticised the State Government for its decision to transfer buses belonging to the State Express Transport Corporation to other Transport Corporations. The move, according to her, would cripple the functioning of the Corporation.
In a statement here on Wednesday, Ms. Jayalalithaa said at a meeting of the Managing Directors of the Transport Corporations held on August 25 that it was decided to transfer the buses belonging to the Express Transport Corporation to other Corporations. In the first phase 27 buses were transferred to Kumbakonam Division, 38 buses to Madurai division, 23 buses to Villupuram division, and 6 buses each to Coimbatore and Salem divisions. Due to this 719 employees of the Express Transport Corporation had been transferred to other corporations. The transferred employees feared that the decision would affect their career prospects. Already the Express Transport Corporation had been delaying the implementation of pension benefits to the employees.
To protest against this, employees affiliated to All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhaga Thozhil Sanga Peravai will organise a protest demonstration in Chennai on September 18, the statement added.
