Election officials meet FM, mobile operators

May 07, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

The District Election Officer B. Chandramohan met with mobile service providers and FM radio stations on Friday, a press release said. The officer held the meeting to guide the providers and the stations on the broadcasting of mass messages and voice calls.

If a political party or candidate has asked for the mass broadcast of a message, the mobile service providers and FM radio stations are to get a certificate from the District Media Certification and Monitoring Committee before the broadcast. Additionally, the details of the candidate and the fees paid should be sent in an email to the District Election Officer.

If the broadcast is at the State level, the service providers and stations have to obtain a certificate from the State Committee. Without this certificate, no messages or broadcasts online can be made. The mobile service providers have been asked to notify the district election officer in case of any spurt in the number of recharges or any other such issue.
